Beautiful Things

“ Heaven is being filled with earth’s broken lives, and there is no “bruised reed” (Isa. 42:3) that Christ cannot take and restore to a glorious place of blessing and beauty”

The beauty of real life is the raw imperfection that God sees beauty in. Instagram has nothing on this. There’s no Facebook status for this one. Dealing with struggles that threaten to unravel our quiet tranquility and then getting to witness how He meets each need one by one rivals the greatest social media photo everytime.

Imperfection is beautiful because there’s truth in it. The world is wrought with imperfections. Our minds are wrought with imperfection. It’s God’s Grace that transcends our own imperfections and slowly returns us to a place where we can one day live in perfection.

The best illustration that comes to my mind is the old Japanese tradition of taking broken pottery with gold:

“Translated to “golden joinery,” Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi, which means “golden repair”) is the centuries-old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with a special lacquer dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Beautiful seams of gold glint in the cracks of ceramic ware, giving a unique appearance to the piece.”
